Together with a group of experts and initiatives, we are exploring what the Community Land Trust model can add to the housing and real estate development landscape in the Netherlands. Community Land Trusts are open membership organizations that use an alternative development model that reflects the interests of the residents and the neighborhood, as well as the public interest. Ownership and management of land, homes and neighborhood facilities is anchored in a CLT organization, and conditions are drawn up for sustainable and social use of it. Due to an ongoing anti-speculation clause and buy-back scheme affordable housing and living are established for this and future generations. It counterbalances the commercial real estate development, rising land and housing prices and the slow ‘pushing out’ of low- and middle-income households.
During the seminar, we will consider various cases (H-Buurt (Bijlmer, Amsterdam), De Haese (Sittard Geleen) and de Ceuvel (Amsterdam Noord), the insights gained from interviews and discussions over the past period, and we will host a discussion with you and some experts on the opportunities for the Community Land Trust model in the Netherlands.
